Research Of The Preposition "Cong" And The Structure Of "Cong" Phrases

Grounded upon the corpse in Beijing University and the self-made corpse, this thesis sets out to make a plane elaboration and a synchronic analysis of the character"Cong"as a preposition and within a phrase, and researches also involve diachronic development of the grammar and framework of the character"Cong".In Chapter I several concepts as preposition framework, framed preposition and correlation were presented. Through subtle analysis and refined description on the framework of"Cong"phrases based on the corpse of modern Chinese, the author found that the framework of"Cong"phrases can be classified into five categories as"Cong"+ X + Position Words,"Cong"+ X + Nominal Phrases,"Cong"+ X + Auxiliary,"Cong"+ X + Conjunction, and"Cong"+ X + Preposition. Hereby this thesis made a quantitative analysis of these phrases and drew a statistics of their usage frequency in modern Chinese.The second Chapter will focus on the birth and development of the preposition"Cong"and"Cong"phrases. The preposition"Cong"derives for the verb"Cong", during whose process of derivation it has been affected by quite a few factors among which the grammatical factor really counts. The preposition"Cong"keeps a close relation with the preposition"Zi". Some efforts were also made for the analysis and survey of the formation and development of"Cong"phrases.The third and fourth chapters of this thesis contribute to the analysis of the grammar, the semantics and the pragmatics of the framework of"Cong"phrases. On the level of semantics, we laid much emphasis on the semantic relationship between the preposition"Cong", the object component, the correlation, and the main verbs, in order to achieve the interpretation of the semantic features of"Cong"phrases. Finally, with an induction of the syntax and semantic conditions of"Cong"phrases, this thesis attempts to draw a conclusion of the special function of"Cong"phrases in sentence making.
