| Objects:(1) To study the prevalence of premenstrual syndrome and correlates in female college students.(2) To explore the relationship between the symptom of premenstrual syndrome and the type D personality in female college students.Methods: Random sampling was carried out in a field survey for 845 female college students. The assessments include: The premenstrual syndrome scale, 14 item of Type D personality Scale (DS-14), the self-designed demographic scale.Results: 1.The prevalence of PMS is 45.4%, among which 32.9% was mild, 11.7% moderate and 0.8% severe. Significant difference is found within students who are in different grades, regular menstruation or not and type-D character or not. Binary logistic regression shows that age, level of adaptation to college life, status of health, endurance extent to pressure of college life and type-D personality are significantly influencing factors to PMS. 2.The prevalence of type-D personality is 31.2%. The ratio of score of SI scale no less than 10 is 49.6% and NA scale is 45%. 3. There is obvious correlation between PMS and type-D personality. However, the correlation is not significant statistically (p>0.05) .Conclusion: Premenstrual syndrome is a common problem in college female students. Comprehensive measures should be adopted to reduce its incidence and improve the quality of life in the affected. the relationship between PMS and D-type personality is obvious. |
