Huitong dialect research is quite a weak part of Hunan Chinese dialectology, yet it is a richful language mine to be urgently exploited. Based on a great deal of first-hand language materials, and with a comprehensive field investigation, this essay makes a detailed comparison on the phonetic characteristics of Dane area and Xiaohe area within Huitong dialect, and lists a syllabery of Tuanhe Village which belongs to Xiaohe area dialect. For its special georgraphic location, Huitong dialect is influenced by Xiang groups, southwest mandarin, Gan Dialect these three Han language dialects, and minority languages like Dong language, Miao language and Yao language; and such belongingness arises great disputes among dialectology field. This essay not only makes an interior comparison of Huitong dialect, but a contrast between phonetics and vocabulary of outer Xiang groups, southwest mandarin, Gan Dialect as its representatives, so as to further make sure the relationship between Huitong dialect and these several dialects.This text is divided into six chapters. The first chapter summerizes geographical location, history, nationality and languag-use actuality of Huitong County, as well as its dialect research status quo and study methods, objectives and significances. The second chapter makes an elaborate comparison on the phonetic characteristics of Dane area and Xiaohe area within Huitong dialect. The third chapter aims to compare Huitong dialect with Xiang groups, southwest mandarin and Gan Dialect in the aspect of phonetic features, in order to understand fully the relationship between Huitong dialect and these three dialects. The fourth chapter makes comparisons and analysis on vocabulary of these four dialects. The fifth chapter intruduces a new language, Suantang Dialect, compares with Huitong dialect in phonetic and vocabulary. The last but not the least, the sixth chapter is the epilogue, makes a sum-up on the whole situation of Huitong dialect on the basis of the mentioned five chapters. By comparative analysis, It is found that Huitong dialect is similar to Suantang dailect, which is a mixed dialect synchronously influenced by Xiang groups, Gan dialect and southwest mandarin.
