Tie-dyeing, a traditional printing and dyeing of China, boasts a very splendid history and has been passed on to generations to generations. No wonder in the modern world tie-dyeing with its unique charm still greatly attracts a lot of people. Particularly the residents in the urban cities are fascinated by the traditional blue-white tie-dyeing. Being fed up with the intense and fast pace of the modern society, people can easily find tranquility and peace in the blue-white color, as well as the acquisition of the lost warm feeling created by handicrafts. And thus, the tide of tie-dyeing is increasingly on the rise. It is evident that such practice of dyeing has been used in costumes and daily necessities.With the boosting of living standards of the modern people, their need for the varieties of colors gradually becomes stronger. Certainly, they do not feel content with the single blue-white color. Therefore, on the basis of the traditional color, more different colors have been created such as the red-white dyeing, green-white dyeing and yellow-white dyeing. Due to the confines imposed by the tie-dyeing process, white is the dominating color for most of its products. As a result, the colors involved in the tie-dyeing are very heavy and noisy. In terms of the relation between color and physiology and psychology, bright colors do not lend themselves to long-term observation. As a matter of fact, the neutral, slight grey or some light colors can be more consoling for people's mind.The essay, based on modern people's psychologically seeking for new and various colors, explores the evolutionary history of tie-dyeing and the application of colors in terms of physiology and psychology. It points out that the color change of tie-dyeing is more suitable for modern people's aesthetic tastes, and that the use of wall hanging provides a possibility for changing the traditional face of tie-dyeing. Thus the color of the tie-dyeing can be compatible with the overall colors of the interior design. The change is possible partly because color can be one of the best visual elements to reveal the spirit of the times. Viewed from the use of color, making efforts to get tie-dyeing to become part of modern life also enables more people get acquainted with tie-dyeing and even cultivate a strong passion for it.
