Lexical Study Of Tang Legend

Tang Dynasty is an important period in Chinese history, and is at the junction of the transition of ancient and modern Chinese. During this period, the vocabulary changed dramatically and was of distinct characteristics. Tang Legend is an important genre of literature. It reflects the broad social life of the Tang Dynasty and its style is lively with rich vocabulary, so it is of high value as the corpus of Chinese. The thesis tries to find laws of the development of the Chinese vocabulary by studying the vocabulary of Tang Legend and does some basic work for the study of the history of Chinese vocabulary.The thesis can be divided into five chapters:Chapter One, the introduction part, introduces the significance of the study, the current condition of this topic, the corpus and the research methods used in the thesis.Chapter Two discusses the formation of Tang Legend's vocabulary which consists of the basic vocabulary and the non-basic vocabulary. Compared with the previous studies on the formation of vocabulary, we adopt the special classification of the basic vocabulary and the non-basic vocabulary, focus on the characteristics of the vocabulary itself with full consideration of the frequency's influence on the position of the vocabulary in the system and have had a general understanding of the basic vocabulary and the non-basic vocabulary of Tang Legend. The chapter emphasizes on the category of the basic vocabulary of Tang Legend, and at the same time, analyzes the old words, words about religion and new words in the non-basic vocabulary of Tang Legend.Chapter Three discusses the formation of the polysyllabic words in the Tang Legend. Polysyllabic is the general trend of the development of Chinese vocabulary. By separating and counting up the words in Tang Legend, we will show the level of the polysyllabic of the Tang Legend's vocabulary. We will also analyze the disyllabic words of Tang Legend from the formation and show its development by the discussion of the formation of their meaning and word class. Chapter Four is the development of the word meaning of Tang Legend. Based on the principle taking sememe as a unit, we will study the existence of the alloseme in the vocabulary of Tang Legend microcosmically. In the second part of this chapter, we will comprehensively analyze the ways and results of the development of the word meaning of Tang Legend and show the appearing process of the new义位of Tang Legend.Chapter Five focuses on the study of the distinctive semantic fields of Tang Legend. In this chapter, we will analyze the semantic fields of relative appellation and officials, and then further discuss the formation of their lower semantic field. The semantic field of compound verbs in the semantic fields of officials is the focus of the study.
