With the progress of higher educational quality project, presently, universities' teaching and learning innovational emphasis has changed from the curriculum system, teaching content to teaching method, examinational way and cultivation model. Because of the spring and the development of research-oriented universities, it puts forward new requests on teaching method and cultivation model. And it drives ahead the exploration and practice of research-oriented teaching method and cultivation model.It is believed that the innovation and practice of the research-oriented teaching method and cultivation model can not be only limited in the major courses in higher grades, it should be run trough the whole college education, from the public course in the first grade. Therefore, whether research-oriented English teaching model for non-English major can be built and practised or not, and how can it be? It is a theoretic problem and a practical problem to be worth studying and exploring.After researching, it is necessary that reforms the traditional teaching model: teacher as centered, book as centered, examination as centered, perfects the present teaching model, and builds the research-oriented English teaching model for non-English major—LGS model. This kind of model, hoping that forming the atmosphere of teaching as a guide, learning as the main body through the reformation of teaching model, its only purpose is to cultivate the students to be self-independent, to discover and solve the problems by themselves, and finally can improve their listening, spoken, reading and writing English ability. It will serve the students better for their future learning and life. This paper mainly explores the research-oriented English teaching model for non-English major, containing five parts.In the first chapter-introduction, it gives the source of why we study this issues. Than tells us the research aim and research meaning, talks about some main concepts' definition. Later it explains the problem' s study way and method, and the mainly referred theories. At the last part of this chapter, it comments the home and abroad of the English teaching model.For the second chapter, it describes the present situation of research-oriented teaching model home and abroad and analysizes the characteristics of research-oriented teaching model. This paper gives the idea of research-oriented teaching model for non-english major from the aspect of teaching idea, teaching method, teaching procedure and teaching evaluation. At the end of this chapter, it analyzes the characteristics of research-oriented teaching model for non-english major.In the last but not the least chapter is to practise the research-oriented English teaching model containing the result of the data. The last chapter is the conclusion. Through the carrying out of the research-oriented English teaching model, the students in the experimented class improved obviously, and at the same time, it has some weakness.
