Computer, as an assistance of teaching, has been introduced into English class since the1990s. Because language development is not necessarily unidirectional and computer can be employed to help learners do a bidirectional communication, the introduction of computer into English classroom has attracted much attention from both English teachers and academic researchers. However, few empirical studies have been done on the effect of the three-dimensional teaching model with the application of internet and multimedia in college English teaching.This research employs an experiment in attempt to investigate the effect of the three-dimensional teaching model on non-English majors. The experiment lasted for two academic years and99students were involved. All of the students are second-year non-English majors are chosen at random from Shengli College. They have all sat the entrance examination arranged by the college and divided into two parallel classes. Forty three students in the control group were taught with the traditional teaching model while another56students in the experimental group with the new model. Data collected from the tests and interviews were used to qualitatively evaluate the students’attitudes towards the teaching model. Both the final exam and CET-4scores were processed by SPSS to answer the following questions:whether or not there are any improvements after the teaching model is applied; what are the improvements in autonomous learning after applying three-dimensional teaching model in experimental class; what differences do students of two classes show in English learning after they have received three-dimensional teaching model.It was found that3-dimensional teaching model can improve the students’learning efficiency and attitudes towards English and students have developed greater interests in learning English. There is obvious improvement in their test scores and the students in experimental class showed stronger ability in self-study after using three-dimensional teaching model. That has proved the usefulness of three-dimensional teaching model in English teaching for non-English majors.The results of this research could provide some pedagogical implications and be a reference for teachers who are interested in applying three-dimensional teaching model to college English learning and teaching.
