At present, in college English teaching in China, there exists a very popularproblem——time consumption and low efficiency. To change this present situation,we must reform the current English teaching method, transform the traditional teacher-centered pattern into the integrated teaching model based on traditional teaching and multimedia- and web- assisted teaching, intensify the learners' practice on basic skills of English, thus meeting the needs of our country and society for highly-qualified personnel. "Integrated Teaching Model: A Research on an Innovation-oriented Classroom Teaching Model of College English" is designed to satisfy the imperative need of reforming the present college English teaching model. This paper falls into three parts :The first part analyses the malpractice and defects of the traditional teaching theory and model. Making a general survey of English teaching in China, we can see not only the great achievements we've made, but also some corrupt practices such as the unitary, inflexible teaching model. Teachers are the leading subjects of teaching activities and students are only passive audience, thus leading to little communication and feedback between students and teachers. In teaching, teachers only focus on their own teaching and neglect students' learning psychology and self-experience. Another serious problem is the separation of cognition from emotion. The second part introduces and comments on the new theories of the second language acquisition and new educational ideas in foreign countries. It proposes some innovative opinions on the traditional classroom teaching. Constructivism emphasizes student-centered principle and advocates students' active exploration and research. This paper introduces the main viewpoints on constructivism learning theory and probes into the teaching practice of college English guided by this theory. The third part studies the integrated teaching model based on multimedia and network technology and brings forth several innovative classroom teaching concepts. Network provides opportunities for both the shift from big class teaching into small group coaching and more face- to-face interaction between teachers and students. However, in practical application, teachers don't know how to make use of network in foreign language teaching, thus lacking interaction while teaching. Web-based foreign language teaching is a systematic project. To fully exert the strength of interaction, full consideration should be taken into course designing, teacher training and teaching model. Teachers should make the best use of network resources and various interactions so as to accord with students' activities, which guides students to meaningful interaction and communication. The final part points out that making use of multimedia in teaching has become an irresistible trend. But with the increasing application of multimedia in English teaching, the questions we have to consider are as follows: Although multimedia has advantages unsurpassed by traditional teaching, what is the relationship between them? The more multimedia, the better? Can it coexist with the traditional teaching model? The paper thinks that in practical teaching, a balance should be struck between them. Only by establishing harmonious relations between them, only by making up deficiencies, only by complementing each other, can we achieve the best teaching effects.
