Shanshan Kingdom was the significant station of Buddhist culture exchange between China and India. However, research for Buddhism of Shanshan Kingdom in academic fields is always relatively weak, owing to historical records of fragment and vagueness. Prosperous Buddhism of Shanshan Kingdom has great characteristics of vulgarization of Buddhism from published Kharo.s.thīdocuments. Typical illustrations belong to the phenomenon of owning faith and without discipline in Shanshan Kingdom, such as monks deposit money, purchasing estate and slaves, engaging in politician and lawsuits, getting married and adopting children. Whereas, they have not done systematic research of Buddhism of Shanshan Kingdom even the West Regions in a deep-going way, because of not enough familiarity about Chinese historical documents. Moreover, concern and achievement of Buddhism of Shanshan Kingdom and vulgarization is very few in number. The article based mainly Kharo.s.thīand Chinese documents unearthed from Western Regions, combining with Chinese history records, refering to the scholars'achievements of the West, Japan and India in Shanshan Kingdom, is discussed overall aspects from spreading and thriving Buddhism and its features. Vulgarization of Buddhism for observation that is entered in the large background of study on Buddhism discipline, comparing with vulgarization of Buddhism of Tibet and Dunhuang region, analyses reasons of its formation and influence today.
