On Translating Culture-loaded Words From The Perspective Of Hermeneutics

As the science and methodology of understanding and interpreting, the issues hermeneutics concern also exert a profound influence on the translation studies. And culture-loaded words, as a special cultural phenomenon, pose a demanding task for preciseness and effectiveness. Therefore, the introduction of hermeneutics into translation is of great importance for the development of translation theory and practice.The research, drawing upon the previous studies and the characteristics of culture-loaded words, proposes an optimal balance translation strategy consisting of optimal balance, appropriate compensations and effective response. The three factors mentioned above correlate to each other closely and can be unified as a whole to constitute a strategy for the translation of culture-loaded words: optimal balance as guideline, appropriate compensation as an assistant strategy and effective response as after-event evaluation.To work out the specific questions raised for this research, the three-dimensional translation strategy is employed to analyze and compare the culture-loaded words in the two English versions of the Chinese ancient masterpiece The Three Kingdoms, therefore the preliminary efficacy of the proposed translation strategy is tested out.The thesis concludes, through qualitative discussion, that the comprehensive application of the three-dimensional translation strategy to culture-loaded words could lead to a prudential, comprehensive and effective product. By suggesting such a strategic strategy for improving the translation of culture-loaded words, this research intends to be of some guiding significance in practical or pedagogical sense.
