As is known to all, Chinese culture-loaded words are the biggest obstacle forcross-cultural communication, and have a great influence on the spread of traditionalChinese culture. So far, many translators have conducted a lot of research in thetranslation of Chinese culture-loaded words, and they have been searching for the besttranslation strategies and methods for Chinese culture-loaded words. By means of anempirical study, this thesis discusses the translation strategies and methods adopted byYang Xianyi in the English version of Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk, from whichthe author of this thesis has collected all the Chinese culture-loaded words, and thenclassified them. Through the statistical analysis method, the author has analyzed thetranslation strategies and methods adopted by Yang Xianyi. Finally, the author hasconcluded that the Skopos theory can serve as a macroscopic guiding theory fortranslating Chinese culture-loaded words. Under the guidance of the Skopos theory, foreignization and domestication should be used alternately when translators translateChinese culture-loaded words into English. If the connotative meanings of Chineseculture-loaded words can be retained as much as possible and the translated text can beeasily understood by the target readers, any translation strategy and method is good.Based on the context, priority should be given to the connotation of the culture-loadedwords in the C-E translation.
