Shanxi Stage Play is an important part of Chinese Stage Play. During the War of Resistance Against Japan and China's War of Liberation in the 20th Century, Shanxi was a special place. At that time, under the guide of the Party, there were many new literature and art organizations with Stage Play as one of their performances. They combined Stage Play with the real struggle, punctured the aggressors and the reactionaries and showed the Chinese decision to love their country and struggle against the reactionaries, which greatly aroused the fighting will of the masses and became an important part in the history of Chinese Stage Play.After the Liberation, Shanxi Stage Play developed into a new area. Between the 17 years of 1949(the entire liberation of Shanxi Province) and 1966 (the Chinese Great Cultural Revolution), the Party and the Government attached great importance to Stage Play. With the effort of the literary and art workers of Shanxi Stage Play, it has developed a lot. Shanxi Stage Play suffered setbacks to some degree because of the "Left" thought in the Party. But on the whole, there is a prosperous development of Shanxi Stage Play.Based on the practical activities of Shanxi Stage Play in those 17 years after the founding of PRC, this thesis systematizes the development of Shanxi Stage Play in this area and studies the features and historic significance of Shanxi Stage Play in this area.The first chapter of the thesis: The victory of China's War of Liberation creates favorable conditions for the development for Shanxi Stage Play. There are two sections in this chapter: one is that Party guides the direction of the development for Shanxi Stage Play and the other is that literature and art organizations and workers of the liberated areas contributed a lot to the development of Shanxi Stage Play in the new area. Before the liberation of the whole country and under the guide of the Party, the literature and artistic workers across the whole country made clear the task and purpose of literary and art in a new area. And also the situation guided the right direction for Shanxi Stage Play. Those artistic organizations and workers from the liberated areas came to Taiyuan, became a vital new force on the art and literary front and bore the development of Shanxi Stage Play. And 17-years endeavor has brought great successes.The second chapter of the thesis: The essential organizations and artistic achievements of Shanxi Stage Play. There are altogether 3 sections in this chapter. Section one is about the professional opera troupes and their artistic achievements, including People's Opera Troupe of Shanxi and Taiyuan Opera Troupe respectively. Section two is about some amateur opera troupes and their artistic achievements and section three some activities of other literary and artistic organizations. Based on the string of historical development, this thesis makes every endeavor to collect and systematize the group performance activities of Shanxi Stage Play and their social influence.The third chapter of the thesis: The external factors of the rapid development of Shanxi Stage Play—multilevel and multichannel communications. There are 3 sections altogether. The first is frequent joint performances and view and emulation performances promote the development of Shanxi Stage Play. The second one is frequent special performances as expression of appreciation and some touring performances become the motive power of the development of Shanxi Stage Play and the third one is the performances of other Provinces also put forward the development of Shanxi Stage Play.The fourth chapter of the thesis: The representative playwright of Shanxi Stage Play 17 years after the founding of PRC—Jia Ke and his main works. Two points are discussed in this chapter. One is about the whole life and main works of the representative playwright—Jia Ke, and the other is the analysis of his works.Shanxi Stage Play developed rapidly during the 17 years after the founding of PRC and played an important role of serving as a link between past and future. With the endless effort of literary and artistic workers, Shanxi Stage Play not only inherited the splendid cultural traditions of the liberated areas but also laid a good foundation for the rise of Shanxi Stage Play after the Chinese Great Cultural Revolution.
