Han Dynasty is the period when the imperial edict formed and developed initially. And the politics of this period is also of representativeness. Through studying the imperial edict in Han Dynasty, the effect it acts on the authority competiton, and the relationship between the imperial edict and imperial power in Han Dynasty, this essay aims to conclude that the imperial edict—as the imperial official document has its own strict procedures and regulations such as: drafting, publishing, implementing, admistrating, and preserving, etc.; the distinctive developing characteristics of the imperial edict showed the politics of this time tends to Confucianism; the imperial edict influences Han Dynasty greatly—because of the speciality of imperial edict, the emperor could strengthen his power by means of revising the procedures of imperial edict such as: decision, issuing, regulating,etc.; the imperial edict had a great effect on the legalism of Han Dynasty. And it plays a main role in times of the Empress Politics and eunuch monopolizing power. What's more, it results in rectifying the imperial edict. By studying the imperial edict and politics of Han Dynasty, we will have a deeper understanding of emperors'influence on history. We should objectively analyse the role they play in history. In a word, whichever political force wields power, finally both their political decision and the measures of running the country must release to his nation through imperial edict. Therefore the idea that authority—imperial edict represented is supreme is rooted in the political life of Han Dynasty ,which is undoubted.
