The two short novels Ball of Fat and Crescent Moon have differed for 55 years in the creation time, although Maupassant's and Laoshe's these two works are different from each other in creation background and personal experience and so on, the authors actually used simple and sharp brushwork, in different time, different states, different nationalities, to portray the similar and bright prostitute images. Ball OF Fat was published in 1880 by the French famous writer Maupassant. This novel was deeply appreciated by his teacher---Flaubert, he wrote a letter to Maupassant, indicating his appreciation. Flaubert said in the letter,"I dare to say that Ball OF Fat is a masterpiece. Writing another 12 the similar stories, you will be a celebrity". But the short novel Crescent Moon was published on Tianjin Chinese Weekly Report in April 1935, which was written by our country renowned writer Laoshe. Crescent Moon is Laoshe's only work taking the female as the description main body. These two short novels'being both caused giant reaction in its birth state; moreover they have been enjoying good reputations until now. Long-term spreading of these two works, making the innumerable readers have vivid impression of the two prostitutes, Ball of Fat and Crescent Moon. Ball of Fat made the readers to admire greatly by her pure and good disposition, and the great national moral courage. Crescent Moon made the innumerable readers to take pity on her because of her pitiful life experience, becoming a prostitute when she was very young, the body and the soul suffering from masculine and society's dual devastations. Nowadays, when we emphasize"person standard"thought, these two works have enormous value which are worth us pondering and discussing.Looking from the subject study angle, the authors of these two short novels had the different creation background and different personal experience, but they actually portrayed the similar bright prostitute images in different time, different states, and different nationalities. Although the works had chosen the same subject - - prostitute, but through three aspects contrast:their desire, the pursue and the disposition, we actually discovered that they have not allow to neglect difference in same. They have different desire for"food and sex", the different life pursue of"offering and gaining love", also the different disposition of"revolting and obeying". Therefore, this article took the related literature theoretical knowledge as a foundation, and contrasted these two literary works from character image as well as cultural context, and so on.The full text was formed by three parts: introduction, body, and conclusion. Except the introduction and the conclusion, the body part explained Ball of Fat and Crescent Moon's beautiful and pitiful character image by three kinds of angle contrasts, and explained the reason of the different character image. The body part included three parts. The first part is the different character explanation, including the desire contrast of food and sex, the pursue contrast of offering and gaining love, the character contrast of resistance and submission. The second part is the reason explanation of different character image, including two aspects: author's growth experiences and creation intention. The third part is the cultural explanation of different life condition, including two aspects: the different women's life condition and the prostitutes basic right's missing. The first part of the body has proven Ball of Fat's beautiful image when she was in the process of absconding with the people in the same bus, and Crescent Moon's pitiful image in the difficult life of the dark social. The other two parts of the body explained the book's historical characteristics and writer's intention through the mutual contracts of two work's author individual factors and social factor, and so on, made every effort to cultivate the cultural connotation of the works. Two works were both influenced by the authors'growth experiences, and they were also the authors'depth critique and exposition of the"eating human"society. Crescent moon through the painful narration of"me", because of living in straitened circumstances and starting to participate in other's marriage, and finally to sell the mortal body, let the author said"me"was in the survival pity in the subjective appeal. Ball of Fat through the description of Ball of Fat's agreement of the German military officer's request for the noble on the road of becoming a fugitive, caused Ball of Fat to become"the greatest person"when the national was in peril. Otherwise, the two works had the bright character image to a great extent, they are also demonstrated each other state's social background. Therefore, two works which were together only of thousands of characters, actually melted in a body of ethics, the human culture, the cultural thinking history and the sociology and so on, this also precisely embodied the work's itself value.This article's creativity mainly manifests in the following several aspects: First, from the image comparison angle, contrasted the literary works of China and France, from different time and the different social background, promoted French literature research area expansion. Second, through same character image, prostitute, excavated the different subjects, beauty and pity. Third, in these two works'contrast process, expanded the massive cultural context which behind the works, enriched the relations methods of Chinese and French literature research in the form and the content.
