Pure Heart, Innocent Dream

This thesis mainly rereads dream ci of Li Yu's unique life. Late Tang and Five Dynasties'Poetries, from the original ecology has developed maturely day by day. As one of great representatives, Li Yu ---a poet who connects the late Tang and Five Dynasties to Song Dynasty, has an indelible contribution to poetry. In his more than 30 poetries which are spread down, they could be called each word a gem. But we have met some difficulties in Li Yu's research, due to his life environment,status,thoughts and feelings varying from time to time, the change of times background, and lack of literature review. All of these lead to our bias on understanding the thought of ideology and artistic characteristics.However, dream ci, as a carrier of his main thought and culture, are neglected by people. Dream ci are not only the poems containing the word"dream", but also those self-sentiment, emotion outpouring and life portrait like dreaming under"dream consciousness".My thesis mainly discusses Li Yu's dream ci from three aspects:First, it's about Li Yu's pure love dreams and dream ci. Through the usage of dream imagery, Li Yu's poems gradually form his unique artistic characteristics, and finally produce dream ci which spread through the ages. In fact, as long as we carefully read his poems, we can find that in his poems he has unique personal feelings---his sonly heart; whether in his luxurious emperor life, or captured humiliated life, Li Yu sing pure life perception by his sonly heart. Dream imagery and contents of dream ci are classified mainly according to poem's style and subjugation of time, and mainly explain"drunk and dream","spring dream","subjugation dream","humiliation dream"in his dream ci and the cultural connotation under the realities of family and the society in his living age , namely in such an atmosphere. In this thesis, the author makes detailed analysis of Li Yu's dreams. As long as we get deeper understanding of Li Yu's reality at that time, we can find that Li Yu with unique cultural personality always sing his life by dream form in pure love. Whether happy or sad, spoken or unspoken, his poems are the true portraiture of his real life.Second, this thesis discusses Li Yu's dream ci's features under sentimental feelings. Before Li Yu, there are many creations on poems about dream. Nevertheless, his poems are"description of dream imagery to reveal people's inner world,a special means to concentrate information of outer world"is rare in history. In Li Yu's dream ci, we can feel the dreamlike life incomprehensive, and the duckweedlike world hard to grasp. In fact, Li Yu's tragic life has inextricable ultimate problem---his family and country, his past and present. Li Yu generalizes his tragic experience that the country is defeated and the home lost, finally obtains a kind of extensive form and meaning, and further exceeds the concern towards personal destiny and national destiny.His poems are endowed with sorrow and helplessness in deeper level. Just this kind of sorrow feeling and pure love poetic perfection makes him the evaluation"King of ballads".Throughout the history, there are a number of famous poets, but none of them like Li Yu, who has legendary life experience, and sentimental nature of mind.His life lingers in dream ci, are helpless in dream words, and finally dies in dream words. His poems make us feel intensive emotional impetus and helpless sentiment. Especially after national ruin, his poems sing his miserable life through his blood. In his artistic creations, Li Yu's dream ci can be called domain over many dynasties. The use of contrasting space and time, straightforward skill, and his naive and intelligent utterance implants new blood to the field of ci in five dynasties, and bring ci to the lyricism again.At last, this thesis make conclusion on the effect of Li Yu's dream ci. Li Yu is indispensable in the field of ci. He not only has changed unhealthy ways and customs of the flowery school of ci poems, but also inherits and develops romantic and unrestrained temperaments of tang style;in song dynasty, that Li Yu's heirs develop and grow"powerful and free school"and develop Ci into literature style like poems expressing aspirations is a result of exploration and study on Li Yu's dream ci; the high unity of the true, the good and the beautiful in Li Yu's dream ci points out a way approach to literature development for later generations even us,that only the true, the good and the beautiful can earn his work ever-lasting literary reputation.Li Yu's ever-lasting literary reputation isn't for his sovereign ruler Emperor, but for his dreams ci and constant pure love dreams.
