China's secondary vocational education is an important part of its education. Secondary vocational school students in general are minors, and their cultural foundation is weak. Most of them might find the employment situation grim after graduation. Calligraphy education is a unique and effective way to improve the quality of students, and to promote all-round development of students. At present, there are some universal problems in calligraphy education in secondary vocational schools, such as: one-sided understanding of calligraphy education, calligraphy education not being taken seriously, the teaching process and course progression do not suit the requirements of modern society. In particular, there are many aspects that cannot meet the requirements for a quality education. All these problems have greatly affected the actual efficacy of calligraphy education. The goal of this paper is to analyze the causes of the problems first, and then propose countermeasures in a targeted manner from the perspective of modern educational concepts and requirements to secondary vocational schools in the new era.First of all, educational and administrative departments and schools should have a full understanding and should pay great attention to calligraphy education. Such attention should not only be reflected in policy, but also be reflected in the practice (implementation) of decision-making.Sticking to the principle of quality education, teachers should actively carry out reforms and practices of calligraphy education with the aim of developing all-round abilities of students, and all these reforms and practices should be student-oriented. That is, on the basis of scientific goals, teachers should understand and treat calligraphy education from the perspective of educating people according to the needs of the society and students'characteristics. Teachers should continually update course contents to meet the diverse developmental needs of students as their environment and life experiences change.Teaching processes and methods are the key steps of teaching reform. In my own teaching practice I have attempted many different strategies, such as: the combination of painting, literature and music (setting up background music) and other art forms; rational use of modern educational means; the integration of "going out" and "introducing in"; carrying out indirect teaching according to different levels. All these measures have achieved good effects. The direction of evaluation mechanism reform is to make it more scientific and diversified, in particular to focus on day-to-day tests and indirect tests. The reform should also focus on the quality and capability of students.
