| Modern society need high quality talents who are equipped with intensive and extensive knowledge of their subjects, practical and innovative, cooperative, capable of participating in international communication and competition, physically and psychologically healthy, patriotic and etc. This raised high standard demands on the quality education of talents in universities. In our country, it is well accepted that public art education plays an irreplaceable role in talent cultivation. Public art education forms an important part of human quality education and the reform of higher education.Public art education in multiversities is an important part of quality education and a major approach of aesthetic education. It aims at cultivating the students' noble tastes and aesthetic appreciation ability, developing their innovative thinking, enriching their feeling experience, enhancing their psychological quality and consummating their personality development. This paper first reviewed the status of public art education in several multiversities, both home and abroad. It then demonstrated the importance of public art education to the full development of university students from the perspective of the characteristics of art, the theory of multiple intelligences, the theory of emotional quotient and the relationship between aesthetic and art education. We discussed the role of public art education in university quality education from the following four aspects: It serves to enhance students' aesthetic ability, to optimize their knowledge structure and to cultivate their innovative thinking, to improve their psychological quality and promote the development of their healthy personality, and finally, to enhance their moral quality.We have obtained data on art education from representative universities, both home and abroad, by literature research through Internet. Public art education in a few top universities at home, with the humanism tradition culture environment, has achieved great progress in the recent decade, although there are still some problems. We compared public art education in Chongqing University with that in Beijing and Qinghua Universities in their course system, credit hour requirement, student art association popularity and teaching staff structure, etc.. The history and status of public art education in Chongqing University represent a good example for multiversities in China. Analysis showed that art education has developed slowly and confronted many problems in a multiversity like Chongqing University because of its science and engineering background. These problems mainly include: ignorance of the importance of public art education, inappropriate course system and not properly structured teaching staff. We analyzed the reasons and attempted to explore the solutions.In the last chapter, we explored the ways to strengthen public art education in multiversities and to enhance students' humanism quality in terms of university notion, administrative systems, course system establishment, and teaching staff training. We proposed the following measures. First, measures should be taken to deepen the understanding of, to attach importance to university public art education. Secondly, efforts should be made to establish a scientifically reasonable course system. Moreover, the teaching staff should be well structured accordingly. Fourthly, a sound administrative system for public art education should be established. The author expects this paper had the reference value for the public art education in multiversities. |
