A Contractive Study Of English And Chinese Human Visceral Organs Metaphors

Human beings are to know the world.Meanwhile they are the tools and the target of human cognition.Very long time ago,our ancestors realized that far takes various things,near takes the various bodies.Human body is a perfect source for metaphor. Among all human organs,visceral organs are extremely important and unique in metaphoric cognition.They are usually projected to human emotions.Compared with others organs,visceral organs are far more complicated both in form and in mechanism in metaphoric cognition.Due to the differences in the thought way,history and culture and religious believes,the metaphoric cognition about human visceral organs vary considerably between the English speaking people and the Chinese speaking people.Those differences may be barriers for language acquiring and cross culture communication.In the first part of the research paper,the author defined the scope of study.They are heart,liver,spleen,kidney,gall,stomach and gut,accordingly their English counterparts.And the researching methodology is pointed out in this part.That is categorization and generalization.The second part is divided into two sections.They are the basic theories:the knowledge of metaphoric cognition and the theory of English and Chinese contrast.In the first section,the author deals with the basic knowledge,then comes to the introduction to the unique and independent status of visceral organs metaphor.In the second sections,the author mainly deals with the universality and differences in metaphoric cognition between English and Chinese speaking peoples.It lays the foundation for the contrast. The third part is the core of the research paper.It contrasts the metaphoric cognition one by one in accordance with the visceral organs.This part deals with the differences and similarities of the visceral organs in metaphoric cognition in great details within the study scope and the possible causes of the differences and similarity.The fourth part is the conclusive differences and similarities based on the third part.It deals with the differences and similarities from macro-perspective.The fifth part concludes the causes which bring up the differences and similarities from macro-perspective.They are the differences in thought pattern,the recognition of function of the same visceral organs and the influences from religious believes.
