| Creativity is a high-level cognitive ability that reflects human intelligence and is closely related to executive functions.Working memory updating(WMU),as one of the core components of executive functions,plays an important role in individual creativity performance.However,there are few studies on the relationship between adolescents’ executive functions and creativity.Previous studies have found that there is a significant overlap between the brain mechanisms affected by WMU training and those were refered to creativity.Based on this,there are two studies conducted to explore the prediction and influence of adolescents’ WMU on creativity.In study1,the relationship between WMU and creative thinking(divergent thinking and convergent thinking)was discussed.The results showed that WMU was significantly correlated with both divergent thinking and convergent thinking.Further analysis showed that WMU could significantly predict score of adolescents’ Remote Associates Test(RAT)and verbal-TTCT(originality,fluency,and flexibility).The influence of WMU training on creative thinking(divergent thinking and convergent thinking)was further investigated in study 2.The results showed that,compared with the control group,WMU of the training group was significantly improved after 20 sessions of WMU training,and the training effects produced far-transfer effects on both the RAT and the verbal-TTCT(originality,fluency and flexibility).Therefore,the present study suggests that WMU in the mid-adolescence is a core executive functions related to creative thinking that can improved by WMU training as well.In addition,the convergent thinking and verbal divergent thinking of adolescents at this stage have strong plasticity,and the training effects are more likely to conduct far-transfer effects.On the one hand,WMU is the core executive function component of adolescent creativity;On the other hand,adolescents’ creativity have more plasticity. |
