The poet and poetry critic Zheng Min began to use the Western poetry theory to analyze the development status of Modern Chinese poetry in 1980's, and found that although the Modern poetry in China developed for nearly a century, it hasn't formed its tradition; and the reason is that Modern Chinese poetry hasn't set up its own National Identity. The form of status attributed to the poets in today estranging and ignoring the essence of the Ancient Chinese poetry, and worshiping excessively and imitating clumsily of the Western poetry. Zheng Min has been influenced profoundly by the Deconstruction theory which represented by Derrida, and advocated"Diversified"idea in poetry development, not only against to the negative affection in poetry of the prevalence of"Monism"once in China, but also traced the origin of the forming to the"New Culture Movement"in 1919, and questioned the"Colloquial Poetry Movement"which advocated by Hu Shi and Chen Duxiu in first time, pointed out that the action embarrassed the generations poet succeeding and developing the essence of the Traditional Chinese poetry, caused the Modern Chinese poetry had lost its Nationality, and hadn't bring out any classic poetry. She believes that the only way of re-establishing National Identity is using the traditional methods of the Ancient poetry into creating of Modern poetry. Zheng Min's evaluation about the disadvantages of current Modern Chinese poetry is incisive, but her total negation of Colloquial Poetry Movement and comprehension of National Identity are biased in some level, and it caused the controversy in Academia, then some scholars like Stephen Owen, Michelle Yeh all discussed the problem of the National Identity of Modern Chinese poetry extensively. Although some of them criticized Zheng Min's opinion in their discourses, and their attitudes conflict each other sometime, most of them learned that the Modern Chinese poetry is in a difficult position of International poetry which leading by the Westerns, and gave some advices for re-establishing the National Identity of Modern Chinese poetry. The re-establishing needs not only the theory-building but also a lot creative practice for long-term; but by scanning Zheng Min's poetry over the years, we found that her action was out of joint in theory and creative, she didn't fulfill the obligation of succeeding and developing the essence of the Traditional Chinese poetry which advocated by herself. Zheng Min has been influenced profoundly by some Western poets like Rilke, so there is rare any imprint of Chinese culture in her works, they reflected a kind of successful action of"localization"the Western poetry in more; whether the advantage as"sharp image"or the disadvantage as"theory of first", all of them are due to the far-reaching impact of Western culture. It can be seen that Zheng Min's poetry enriched the"localization Western culture"style of Modern Chinese poetry, but she hadn't changed traditional culture into modern style in poetry, then she also hadn't joined the creating group of"Re-establishing the National Identity"in reality, so this grand goal is waiting for the generations poet to effort to achieve.
