Spring Festival originates in the traditional agriculture society, Chinese New Year is an important traditional festival with a history of several thousand years, which enjoys a sound foundation in social life practices. As it has inherited from the long historical development, the festival accumulates deep cultural traditions which show people' s longing for happy lives. However, as we enter into the twenty-first century, the annual Spring Festival and its taste begin to downplay signs of a decaying, the social environment of "Nian" culture is in destruction. In order to allow people to pay more attention and to enjoy "Nian" culture better, we' d better present its era characteristics and embody its identify effectivenesses through its strong vision. From the perspective of combining the culture with modern art design, this article is designed to carry forward the spirit of the culture connotation through creating works of art which are in line with contemporary psychological, aesthetic and cultural vision.This thesis starts from stating the origin of "Nian" , then systematically explains the contents of its culture and cultural connotations, which closely relate to the annual cultural folk custom and visual arts, and finally advances to modern art design of "Nian" culture, the development of its future and outlook are also analyzed. The focus of this paper is the fifth chapter, which describes the specific modern art designing methods of the culture and the value orientation to be followed in details. Basing on the traditional culture vision achievements, the subversion and transcendent of the tradition, it draws that the culture designing should consider the era of design, innovation, cultural traditions and national characteristics, demands of the consumer and creation of culture brands, then present some modern art design examples which close relate to "Nian" culture to analyze and explain the above question.
