Variations in modern female role orientation give a great challenge to the several-thousand-year tradition.It is a prominent expression of female pursuit of freedom,equality and liberation,which is most prominent during the Wuxu Reform, Xinhai Revolution and the May 4th Movement.Noted for its multi-level,multi-angle character-istics and continuous development,it is the result of social catalysis,as well as the female pursuit,and it presents various characteristics in different times.The female role during the Wuxu Reform is "new virtuous wife and mother".Contracted with traditional virtuousness,it hightlights the social function of females to defend and strengthen our country,initiates liberation of female body and spirit.Yet,resulted from male visual view, it stresses the family role of females.The female role during the Xinhai Revolution is "female citizen",strongly coloured by the times.It gives prominence to the female social responsibility of loving and saving our mother-land,their political power of participation.It stresses the social role of females and their sense of self orientation.The female role during the May 4th Period is "free and independent females", which stresses female pursuit of independent personality, their strong sense of social responsibility for self-existence and saving the nation on the verge of extinction,and their all-sided understanding of themselves as "human beings" in the society.It highlights self-liberation and shows a tendency towards the double role development in family and society.This article consists of three parts:The introduction outlines the significance of the topic, research developments and chief creative views in this passage.Part Tow is mainly devoted to the connotation and characteristics of female role orientation during the three periods,and our appraise of it.By comparing the three periods, we summarize the law of role orientation development and variation,and research on its forming causes.In the conclusion we summarize the female role orientation during the three periods,draw enlightment from the history, and put forward our ideas:Rational female role orientation plays an important part in females' lang-term development.
