Research On Liu Ban's Literature

Liu Ban is a cultural master during the Northern Song Dynasty, few people know that yet. However, this does not mean his works do not have study value. With variety of literary works, there must be some successful works of Liu Ban. It has great value to evaluate Liu Ban depth for study comprehensively of his literature.The introduction of this thesis takes an overview of the academic researches about Liu Ban, and of his abundant works, and then put forward the research ideas of this paper. On the basis of the study of existing data, this paper will start on from four aspects, such as: his biography, literary friendship, his view of literature, poet and prose creation, etc.In the first part, I try to carding Liu Ban's biography, to make us understand him. And then introduce his literature friendship with Ouyang Xiu and with Su Shi briefly, to grasp the sources of his literature ideas from such perspectives, his friendship with Ouyang Xiu and the understanding between him and Su Shi.The second part of the paper elaborates Liu Ban's view about literature creation, and find out the status of his idea in the poetry history by making a comparative analysis with others', like Ouyang Xiu. Besides, I also explore the features and origins of Liu Ban's prose creation theory in this part.The third part focuses on the main content and characteristics of Liu Ban's poems, to highlight his poems' style. And with comparing with Ouyang Xiu's poems, this part pays much attention to analyzing their two different poem style.Part IV discusses Liu Ban prose creation style and content, and bears down the specialties of his prose creation. According to his double identities of being historian and writer, this part starts with the characteristic of his creating prose just like writing history, and then delves into the uniqueness of Liu Ban's prose.The concluding part combining Liu Ban's accompaniments in literature and historian and multi-culture of Song Dynasty, placing Liu Ban in the whole historical background of Song Dynasty, makes an effort to evaluate Liu Ban's literary status.
