The Guangdong Xiao Jin Kou kylin dance(the Dance hereafter) is mainly popular in the east of Guangdong province which is a migrant area where the profound Chinese national folk art is deeply rooted.Namely,the Dance is the accumulated crystallization of historical blend of cultures of both central China and the east Guangdong folk.It became a distinct regionally characteristic of dance with its unique style mixed with several other sister arts and customs after an endless social development.The object of study for this paper is the Dance.It is conducted with the anthropology research method from the angles of sociology,history,folklore through the exploration of its origin and development,in particular,its pattern for body form characteristics.As a result,its art character and spirit are displayed.There are three main parts in the paper.In the first part,it explores the relationship between the Dance and the farming culture in the Cantonese social environment through looking up the local history and the comparison of the legend of Kylin.Meanwhile,the paper analyses the general development between Kylin dance Guangong and Xiao Jin Kou Kylin dance especially the dancing situation influenced by the economy after the Opening up reform in 1980s.In the second part,the distinctive cultural character of the Dance is demonstrated through its performances and uniqueness and it is concluded in a deep depicting.In the third part,it is through the analysis of the Chinese mindset of pursuing luckiness and its original reasons as well as its various means and beneficial purposes that the paper explores further the good fortune culture and its connotation and extension which reflect the timeless succession of the origin of Chinese spirit for Chinese tradition culture.
