In the history of China's modern primary school education, Prof. Zhao Tingwei was an educator that should not be forgotten. He was specialized in methodology of teaching, making prominent contribution to the introduction and innovation of modern methodology of teaching in China. And for this reason, he was renowned as one of the pioneers on modern teaching methodology in China.This paper, premised on materials of varied aspects collected by the author, discusses and studies Prof. Zhao Tingwei's methodology, as well as his ideas on disciplining and professionalism of teachers, brings to light his exclusive contribution to primary education, and explores the significance of his educational ideas upon the reform of fundamental education in modern times.Apart from the Preface, this paper incorporates six parts:Chapter One, from such two dimensions as transformations of characters and time, introduces Prof. Zhao's educational practices and outlines the backdrop for and the process of the development of his ideas on primary education.Chapter Two, functioning as a breakthrough point, elaborates on his ideas about teaching methodology and features of his ideas from such perspectives as the relations between methodology and courses, teaching principles and selections of teaching methods, etc.Chapter Three, from such two angles as contents of courses and teaching methodology and by analyzing aspects like reading, speech and writing based on primary teaching materials of literature, introduces Prof. Zhao's ideas on teaching method of literature, and premised on literacy education breaks down Prof. Zhao's ideas on literature teaching and finds out about the realistic guiding significance of such ideas.Chapter Four, with "how to cope with students' negligent act" as a break-in point, elaborates on and concludes Prof. Zhao's ideas on educating and disciplining students. Through an introduction of his proactive methods and practices, this chapter amplifies the merits of his educational ideas.Chapter Five discusses details about Prof. Zhao's ideas on teacher's professionalism and quality, and analyzes his opinions on development channels for professionalism of teachers and standardizations of employment procedures and professional morals of educators.The Conclusion, recapitulating Prof. Zhao's contribution to primary education in our country and taking into consideration the modern reforms in teaching methodology, provides such food for thinking as how to properly handle exotic cultures, how to look at development of a teacher's professionalism, and how to keep students as the main body in a educational process, etc.
