The formation and development of Art has a close relationship with the times and region.Shanghai,the most international city in China,is the fusion and exchanging centre of Chinese and Western Culture,and also the passage of introducing Western art ideological trend to China in recent one hundred years.Shanghai is not only the cradle of introducing Western minimal art but also the hotbed of the biggest group of Chinese Contemporary minimal art that the artists lived on,especially it provides its own soil and climate for minimal art,and also there are a large number of artists with a global sight,who have a deep understanding of both Chinese and Western cultures and take art as their lift-long pursuits.Now Contemporary minimal art of Shanghai has become an important phenomenon of contemporary minimal art in China,and it appears in the forms of a strong momentum of updated.Chapter 1 is the introduction part of this thesis.Chapter 2 attaches its great importance on the analysis of the practical courses and historical circumstance of early modern art in Shanghai,and explores the basic reasons of the development of minimal art by taking the ins and outs of the minimal art in early modern art periods in China as a cut-in and sorting out the special historical background of China during the period from the Opium War to the end of the Cultural Revolution.It aims to illustrate that the fate of art has a complementary relationship with a country's politics, economy and culture.As the central part of this thesis,Chapter 3 discusses the phenomenon of contemporary minimal art in Shanghai since the end of 1979.It consists of five parts:Part One is the development courses of Contemporary minimal art in Shanghai;Part Two is the relationship of contemporary minimal art and Shanghai;Part Three is the diverse forms of contemporary minimal art;Part Four is the embodiment of the value of contemporary minimal art;Part Five discusses the present situation of minimal art and its future prospects.Chapter 4 is the author's own idea on the necessity and reasonability of Shanghai's contemporary minimal art.Then it draws the conclusion that the appearance of Shanghai contemporary minimal artists "group" is the inevitable results of the Chinese industrialization and urbanization.It is also the results of reasonability and possibility of the culture,and especially the necessity of the development of contemporary visual culture.Meanwhile,under the special Chinese cultural context,the Contemporary minimal art still poses great cultural cognition significance.
