The most important person is Peter Voulkos who is regarded as the Father of American contemporary ceramics. There is a view which is accepted widely in the States that American contemporary ceramic began from 1954 when Peter Voulkos became the teacher of Otis art school and started Otis Clay Revolution. This event was influenced directly by abstract expressionism and make ceramic as a offset of contemporary art.The otherside is more far-reaching. It provided an opportunity to American ceramic and open a door for it. Abstract expressionism influenced several generations.
