As very precious historical cultural heritages, murals have important historical,cultural and artistic values. After thousands of years destruction by the nature or human, the murals have produced all kinds of diseases. Among these diseases, salt injury is the most typical and prevailing phenomenon . Salt diseases can bring many problems to mural matrix and paint, such as splitting, fall off, which have brought tremendous challenges to the murals protect.Combined with the status quo and characteristics of the murals salt diseases, we could see that the key to solute this problem is desalination.This paper, in order to resolve salt injury of the murals, was actively looking for safe and efficient desalination-materials, and modified attapulgite, sodium chloride precipitation agent, super-absorbent resin was successively studied.By orthogonal experimental method, a rapid and effective super-absorbent was synthesized by grafting acrylamide onto potato starch, using N,N,- methylene-bisacryl amide as a cross-linking agent and potassium persulfate and sodium sulfite as a redox initial system .This resin has quick water-absorbent rate and salt-resisit capacity(3min this superabsorbent can absorb 1% sodium chloride aqueous solution as times as 58.5-fold), absorb salt preferentially as well, the pH value of remaining salt solution after absorption is neutral.We loaded the superabsorbent with the non-woven fabric to make a composite material for the actual desalination of Dunhuang murals, the test results showed that the material has an excellent capability of adsorption desalination...
