Through the study of the Han literature and Turkic epitaphs, the thesis explores the origin, evolution, characteristics of Turkic historiography and its interaction with that of the Han nationality to comprehend its position in the historiography of minorities from the perspective of historiographic history.The thesis consists of two parts. The first part is the introduction of the present researches, reasons for and significance of the study. The originality and contribution of the thesis are also clarified. The second is the body part of this thesis, including five chapters. The first chapter gives an introduction of the early Turkic historiography in the form of myth and legend. The second chapter analyzes articles and biographies of the Turkic in classic books of Han and their characteristics of narration. The third chapter studies Turkic language and inscription literature to display the evolution and characteristics of Turkic historiography. The fourth chapter discusses its historical value through Turkic works. The fifth chapter concludes the study with a summary of the characteristics and position of Turkic historiography.Previous studies of the ancient Turkic nation are mainly from the traditional perspectives of linguistics, historical data and so on. Much has been achieved in these studies. However, the historiographic study of the Turkic is still rare. Therefore, the thesis endeavors to interpret the nation from this new perspective, to establish a frame of the Turkic historiography and explore its origin, evolution, characteristics, so as to reveal the point that the Turkic historiography is an organic part of the Chinese historiography.
