Image processing has been critical to the success of Uyghur-Chinese idiom translation. The gap between literal meaning and metaphor leads to the difficulties in Uyghur-Chinese translation. This thesis studies with assistance borrowed from the latest translatology, modern linguistics and folklore advancements, the definition, functionalities, nature, and classification of image in Uyghur idioms, and analyzes why it is difficult to translate, etc. Consequently various Uyghur image translation strategies and principles are established. Furthermore the thesis points out, the translator may employ the principles of domestication and foreignization, or an hybrid application of both, selecting the most appropriate ways of translation that best adapt to different translation contexts, reflecting the Uyghur featured contents and culture in target language, and impacting the target readers the same as those in the source language.
