With an aim to explore the science and technology translation process in a more comprehensive way, this thesis endeavors to examine the substantial translation process from the perspective of schema theory.Influenced by the rise of cognitive research in linguistics and the rise of translators' subjectivity in translation studies, the focus of translation research shifts from the original text to the translator's mental process; thus, the translation studies from the process-oriented perspective have received more attention. Accordingly, abundant research mushrooms trying to access into the translators' mind from various angles, among which, three perspectives which view translation respectively as a communication containing inference and intention, as a problem-solving process which concerns the translation strategies, and as a metaphorical mapping based on the cognitive semantics have received increasing attention and become the three representative ones. This thesis, in terms of the pros and cons of these three classic perspectives, attempts to step further to draw a more comprehensive diagram of translation process, in which the operation of schema theory is adopted as a theoretic basis. In the first place, the operation of schema theory is synthesized into two procedures: the procedure of instantiation and the integration; to be more specific, information is processed from a stage of matching the new input with the existed schemata to a stage of integrating them.Secondly, based on the operation of the schema, similarities have been drawn between the schema theory and the translation process, due to which a schema-based model of translation process is set up. Likewise, it contains two procedures of instantiation and integration. That is to say, in the translation process, the source text as a new input is firstly matched with the translator's schemata, and then in the light of the target language readers' demands, the two languages are integrated, producing the target text.Lastly, on the ground of the specialties of science and technology translation, the study is conducted by investigating the application of the model to science and technology translation process. Cases are provided to validate the feasibility of the model on the one hand, on the other hand inspire the implications on science and technology translation. What should be noted is that in every stage of the process, content schemata, formal schemata and language schemata participate and function noticeable. In the light of that, implications are yielded to the science and technology translation.
