The Preliminary Study On The Undergraduates' Fear Of Failure

The fear of failure(FF) is a aspect of achievement motivation,and effects people's success.Usually,FF be seemed'a negative role.To measure success motivation often must be measured FF.On the basis of reviewing former researches and consulting the psychological experts,the theoretical hypothesis on FF is put forward.According to it; the study design a preliminary questionnaire on FF of undergraduates after the open-ended questionnaire and the interviews with undergraduates,which is formed into the formal questionnaire,the reliability and validity are tested out. 1892undergraduates investigated by using the formal questionnaire,and the effects many factor are analyzed to explore the characteristic of undergraduates'FF.The main results of this study are as follows:1.The undergraduates'FF obtains 5 factors:important others losing values, experiencing shame and grief,devaluing self-worth,upsetting important others,having an uncontrolled future.The responsibility of this questionnaire has good reliability and validity.2.Undergraduates'FF presents a middle level generally,especially on these factors: experiencing shame and grief,devaluing self-worth,upsetting important others,The order of the rating of the 5 factors is as follows:experiencing shame and grief, upsetting important others,devaluing self-worth,important others losing values.3.There isn't significant difference in undergraduates'FF between the male and the female generally.The undergraduates who come from city were worried about experiencing shame and grief and the ones come from rural were worried about upsetting important others after failure.The junior worried about experiencing shame and grief and devaluing self-worth.The FF score of undergraduates who study art or gym was lower than the ones who study other objects.The FF score of undergraduates who have a middle grades was the most high.The undergraduates who have more achievement intensity were worried about experiencing shame and grief,and the ones who have less achievement intensity were worried about devaluing self-worth.Eldest son'FF score was high than others,there is no difference between the undergraduates' parents education and their fathers' jobs.
