The Comparative Study About The Interpretation On The Disyllabic Verb In The Earlier And The New Modern Chinese Dictionary

AbstractThe Modern Chinese Dictionary(MCD for short ),which has a strong normative and theoretical and conforming to the times,is recognized as the most authoritative one in modern Chinese instrument books.Both the first edition of the Modern Chinese Dictionary(an earlier version) and the fifth one(the new version) reflect in the characteristics of the Chinese vocabulary at that time,whose differences,to some extent,reflect the change of the Chinese vocabulary in the last thirty years.Because of the complexity of verb and its associated language items,it has been the focus of academic language,and disyllabic word is the basic form of the modern Chinese vocabulary.Therefore,this paper describes the differences between the definition of the disyllabic verb and its semantic interpretation,and further tries to explain the reasons for these differences.The text is divided into five chapters:Chapterâ… ,the "Preface",at first,illustrates the origin of this selected subject.It contains two aspects:firstly,its origin-to be examined to look for omission,namely the research to the interpretation differences of the disyllabic verbs,which is based on a comprehensive exploration research from the academics at an earlier version of the Modern Chinese Dictionary and the new one.Secondly,it shows the application and its theoretical value of the subject.Next,it synthetically discourses the status quo of the semantic nature,the verb semantics,and its evolution theory relevant to the study.Finally,it is an overview of this paper-the object of study,research method and its steps.Chapterâ…¡describes the interpretation differences of the disyllabic verb between the earlier version of the Modern Chinese Dictionary and the new one.The differences of the two versions embody in three aspects:the increase or decrease of the vocabulary and entries sense, and perfect its original meaning.In it,the change relevant to the vocabulary entries and sense embody in two aspects.Comparatively speaking,it is more complex to perfect the interpretation of the original meaning.This paper takes the explanation mode on behavior words,which is summarized by Mr.Fu Qinghuai,as the standard model,proceeds from the explanation ways on extended and phraseology form,through the contrast to the earlier and the new version,then finds out the differences as follows:the change of the extended explanation on verb reflects mainly in subject,object,the participants of behavior movement, the increase,decrease,or replacement of the verb kernels,and the single change or general changes about the other concerned roles;the change of the explanation on phraseology behaves on increase,decrease,and replacement.Besides,in the process of revision from the earlier to the new version,there are parts of special explanation on disyllable verbs,such as the changes in paraphrase ways,in grammar meanings,in special meanings,in the conversion of composition and notes.Chapterâ…¢consists mainly of two parts:The first part describes the evolution types of the Interpretation on disyllabic verbs in the earlier and the new Modern Chinese Dictionary, mainly in two categories:the increase of the sense;the adjustment of the original meaning.Partâ…¡,from three aspects,explains the cause of the word evolution of the Interpretation on disyllabic verbs in the earlier and the new Modern Chinese Dictionary:the object,the subject,and the language world.In this paper,it firstly use the change in the subject world to illustrate the external factors of the words'evolution,then take the subject world as the main entry points,introducing the relevant theories of the cognitive linguistics,such as metaphor,metonymy,to show the internal mechanism of the evolution.Chapterâ…£elaborates the reason for these differences of the Interpretation on disyllabic verbs in the earlier and the new Modern Chinese Dictionary.In explaining the reason for these differences of the Interpretation on disyllabic verbs in the earlier and the new Modern Chinese Dictionary,we not only omit the factors of the external objective world,which has been a thorough exposition in the academic world,but also the impact of the word change on the interpretation,because the first three chapters of this article is devoted to the word evolution of the Interpretation on disyllabic verbs in the earlier and the new Modern Chinese DictionaryIn Chapterâ…£,we explain the reason for the change of the paraphrase mainly following two aspects:the paraphrase is perfected by the impetus of the metalexicography achievements; the paraphrase is revised under the influence of the nature and scale of the dictionary.The effects of the metalexicography achievements can be refined in three aspects:the accuracy of the dictionaries'explanation,its generalizability and systematization.The impact of the dictionaries' nature,scale and its structure is mainly aimed at the interpretation of the specialist entry,and the notes' amendments in Modern Chinese Dictionary.The final chapter briefly outlines the amendment and its modified form,made from the new version to the earlier version of Modern Chinese Dictionary.Besides,it points out the Interpretation on the disyllabic verbs needed to be discussed,and try to make their proper interpretation.
