H.G.Wells is a famous modern british writer and social activist. He had published 110 books and around 500 articles in his life, rid of literary writings, his works also involve fileds about society, science and history. But in literary realm, he is most well-known for his Sicence Fictions and Utopias. The more important ,Wells' Utopias take up Sicence Fiction's form that further stregthen literary Utopia's reality criticism and future scheme founction ,which also make the Sicence Fiction becomes the major art form of western literary Utopia in 20th. All of these are close tied with Wells' viewpoint of novel, technology, human nature and politics, which exactly constitutes the ideological root of Wells' Utopias.The text studies Wells and his 13 long Utopias to discuss the creating survery, art form, art founction and ideological root of Wells' Utopias in the light of Layman Tower Sargent, Darko Suvin and other Utopian researcher's theories.The text consists of three parts: the preface, the body and the conclusion.The preface first elaborates western literary Utopia's definition and development, then summarizes the present studies both home and abroad , finally introduces the methods and contents of the text.The body cotains four chapters.The first chapter "Creating survery of Wells' Utopias", consists of two parts. The first part set Wells' 13 Utopias as the text's study subjects on the analysis of Wells' all writings. The second part classifes and analyzes three writing stages of Wells'utopias according to Wells' writing rode from "anti-utopia" to "utopia".The second chapter "Art form of Wells' Utopias", consists of two parts. The first part points out Wells' Utopias started Sicence Fictions' form and expounds Sicence Fiction's definition and development. The second part firstly discusses the relationship between Sicence Fiction and literary Utopia, then concludes the characteristics of Wells' Sicence Fictions' form Utopias, including the science power's comprehensive participation in Utopias' found and the Utopian estrangment standard's strengthen.The third chapter "Art founction of Wells' Utopias", consists of two parts. According the two major founctions of Utopia from G.O.Hertzler and "estrangment" theory form Darko Suvin, the writer points out Wells' Utopias have reality criticism and future scheme founction, then chooses his two typical Utopias When the Sleeps Wakes and The secret places of the heart to concretelly analyze the art founction of Wells' Utopias.The fourth chapter "Ideological root of Wells' Utopias", consists of two parts. The first part discusses Wells' novel veiwpoint that novel should criticize reality and express ideas. The second part analyzes Wells'concept of technology, human nature and politics.
