Objectives To provide scientific basis for how to improve middle school students' self-recognition,self-efficacy,as well as the ability to cope with life events with life skills training and the evaluation。Methods This study is a quasi-experiment study,a prospective study by comparing the experimental and control groups of objects' self-concept,thus to make a judgment for the effect of the intervention. With purposive sampling method,we first select two middle schools which have a better location, student source, ranking, and proportionality in Kunming, then chose two classes of Junior-Middle-School-student of Grade Two in each school as the objects. The study process was divided into two parts as follows:PartⅠ:with the application of modified TOL-R,Stroop Test, the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES),Self Description Questionaire-TypeⅡ(SDQ-Ⅱ),Barrtt-11 impulsivity scale,we hold a quantitative study to find out the level of middle students' self-concepts and the influencing factors.PartⅡ:Take life skills training in one school(the experimental group) once a 1 week and 1 hour each time. The total period is 11 weeks, than evaluate the effects of intervention at the end of the period. Results 1.Demographic characteristics:A total of 174 students(80 males,94 females) with an average age of 13.85±0.57 years was measured,70.7%were the only-child(123/174,),father's occupation was mainly self-employed(35.6%,63/174),followed by workers(30.5%,53/174),as mother's occupation was mainly self-employed too(29.9%,52/174).The parental education level was not high,as most of the fathers just had middle education(51.7%,90/174) and senior education/middle professional education/technical schools(34.5%,60/174).The data of mothers' was that middle education(60.9%,106/174).Family's monthly income was 1000-2999yuan(46.4%,81/174).2.The influencing factors of self-concept:gender,parental education and family income were the influencing factors of students' self-concept.The boys had better general self-efficacy,as well as girls had higher whole self-concept,academic and non-academic self-concept,but no significant difference;the higher parental education level and family income, the higher self-concept the students had.3.The effect of Life skills training on the middle school students:the intervention can improve their self-concept,anti-interference capabilities and can reduce their impulsion.Intervention group had better score in self-concept and the Tower of London(P<0.001),and they took less time in the STROOP test(reading words), STROOP test(color word interference)(P<0.001).4.①TOL-R was positively correlated with General Self-Efficacy(r=0.198,P<0.05)②TOL-R was negatively correlated with Barratt Impulsiveness Scale(r=-0.185,P<0.05)③TOL-R was positively correlated with Emotion Stability Scale(r=0.295,P<0.001),④TOL-R was positively correlated with general school work scale(r=0.353,P<0.001),⑤TOL-R was negatively correlated with Stroop test(r=-0.185 P<0.05)Conclusions 1.Students' ability of self-awareness was affected by gender, parental educational level and family income;2.The boys were better than girls in the TOL-R;3.Life skills training can improve the students' self-concept and the children's ability in planning,problem-solving and anti-interference.The advantages of life skills education include the extensive new content, the interesting and lively form, thus was easy to be accepted by the middle school students.;4.The TOL-R has good test-retest reliability,r=0.743,P<0.0001.It can be used to measure the self-awareness capacity middle school students as it is a non-text tool text thus can avoid the influence of mood state and culture background which is the disadvantage of the text tools.
