A Study On The Image Translation Of Li Yu's Lyrics From Palmer's Cultural Linguistic Perspective

In Toward a Theory of Cultural Linguistics(1996),American anthropologist Palmer combines the cognitive linguistics with the three traditions of linguistic anthropology:Boasian linguistics,ethnosemantics and ethnography of speaking.He offers a brand new aspect of language studies—cultural linguistics.He puts his researching emphasis on "image",which is also important in cognitive linguistics study;he believes that image,cultural and language are closely related with each other.This thesis is based on image theory of Palmer's cultural linguistics,seeks to explain the abundant image beauties of Li Yu's Lyrics;on the analysis of Xuyuanzhong's and others' different versions,I try to discuss how to translate and transfer these images.The thesis can be divided into five parts:Chapter One makes a general survey on theory background and specifies the studying direction of this thesis.Chapter Two is the review of theories,firstly introduces the emergence of Palmer's Cultural Linguistics,then introduces the imagery study in cognitive linguistics as well as Palmer's Cultural Linguistics,indicating that image,cultural and language are closely related with each other.Chapter Three analyzes the image beauties in Li Yu's Lyrics,then analyzing how the different versions deal with the images of the original text.Chapter Four introduces the methods used in image recreation,and talks about the factors that influence the translation of image.Chapter Five is the conclusion part.
