With the development of English education reform, more and more attention have been paid to cultural introduction and cultural awarenesses. To learn a language is not only to grasp key language points but also cultural background of the language. However, for a long time, English teaching focuses on vocabulary and grammar. In this case, students often do not understand the differences between Chinese and Western cultures in English learning.Similarly, English teaching in higher vocational colleges also follows such teaching methods. However, the importance of English language knowledge and language skills while ignoring the cultural phenomenon of teaching for students with higher vocational colleges training objectives to differ materially, vocational colleges cultivate society is mainly application-oriented talents. Vocational college English insists on cultivating students'practical applied abilities. Without understanding of western background, students can hardly communicate with native speakers properly.Compared to other vocational subjects, Vocational English has its own particularities: it is more practical. In today's underground of globalization, with the development of international trade, our country has been integrated into the international culture. As English is an international language, it has become an essential tool to communicate.In order to better master English , people have to be familiar with the East-West cultural differences. Then Vocational English has a strong cultural feature. Vocational English teaching reflects the heterogeneity of the East-West cultures. Vocational English teaches students how to use English in the actual application. So Vocational English also has communicating function, which can not be compared with other vocational subjects.Culture introduction in Vocational English Teaching has practical significance. It is not only an important means of teaching, but also the goal of cultivating applied abilities of students. The thesis explores the objectives and characteristics of Vocational English teaching, points out the problem of cultivating cultural awarenesses. Based on this, the thesis is divided into the following six parts.The introduction part analyses characteristics, purpose and development of higher vocational education. Teachers are required to introduce cultural knowledge to meet the needs of modern society. Foreign Language Teaching's mission is to be able to cultivate students who can successfully communicate with people from different cultures.Chapter one focuses on the theoretical basis of cultural introduction and relationship between language and culture. Language is the carrier of culture; culture is the basis of language. Chapter two points out the necessities of cultural introduction in vocational English teaching. Chapter three explores the objectives, principles and content of cultural introduction. Chapter four discusses the ways and methods of cultural introduction. How to teach vocational English effectively is an important issue. Different ways are suggested to improve the students cross-cultural abilities. Teachers should change teacher-centered teaching model and try different methods to introduce western culture effectively.The last part sums up the differences between Eastern and Western cultures. Only English learners understand and master the relevant cultural information, can they quickly master English language.
