The Research On Processing Of Chinese Idioms Through Eye Movements

Chinese idiom is kind of fixed expression,and it's literal meaning and metaphorical meaning is not equivalent.A substantial amount of research on English idioms has been done in the West and domestic research in this area are not so many.In recent years,the idioms is not only a hot issue in linguistics,but also in psychology,especially the concerns of cognitive psychology.In this study,two pairs of factors have been through the design of the experimental test,and this research exerts the Eye Movement Recorder to record the eye movement process over the juniors when they are reading experiment materials.Experimental错误！未找到引用源。is designed to examine the distinction between the idiom and the general phrase when people apprehending them,and make it clear weather semantic processing and syntactic processing are independent during the processing of Chinese Idioms,the results show that:1.The idiom can be handled more quickly and efficiently than non-idioms.Furthermore,the figurative meaning of the semantic related words promotes the understanding of the idiom.2.The semantic processing and syntactic processing of Chinese Idioms are independent of each other.ExperimentⅡstudied the transparency of familiarity and semantic understanding of the impact of language used,the results show that: Familiarity ranks first at the effects on the understanding of the idioms.It affects chiefly the speed of processing,while transparency affects the depth of the processing.The effect of transparency needs the help of familiarity and it will be different because of the differences of the familiarity.Combined with the results of experimental,I studied the processing model of Chinese idioms preliminarily in the third part of this article.I believe the processing of Chinese idioms follows the model of hybrid processing and different types of idioms are processed in different ways. The comprehension of idioms is mainly through the threshold to happen. In hybrid processing model,there are two levels.The idioms belonging to the threshold low level enter the first-level processing.
