The earliest study on Time Management Disposition (TMD) began in 1960s. In recent years, it has become a characteristic research subject in the field of psychology. Since Professor Huang Xiting published the "Time Management Disposition Scale"in 2001, a series of confirmatory studies have been done and achieved a great deal of research results. Some studies have shown that the factors of impacting time management are A-type personality, locus of control, rearing patterns, concerning with work performance, mental health, academic development, and even subjective well-being, quality of life and so on to some varied degrees of correlation. However, military college students have not been involved in the research, though most studies focus on high school students and college students. Military college students form a rather special group, who are required to finish not only their learning, but also a lot of military training tasks under the strict environment of military management. Then it is worth exploring whether the particularity of military management and military training will affect the formation and development of time management or not. There haven't been studies on adaptation of military college students with different tendencies to time management in military environment. Social adaptation theory suggests that dependence between the individual and the external social environment varies with the changes in individual development and specific differences in the living environment as well as the variety of evaluation criteria of the external balance between the individual and social environment. As for military college students, the norms of adaptive evaluation are often academic achievement, behavioral problems and mental health status, so the academic and mental health have been selected as two norms to analyze the impact of the tendency of time management on adaptability of military college students. Meanwhile, A-type personality as a behavior type closely related with time management has a measurable influence on individual time management and the development of its adaptability, which is analyzed in this study. In this study, the technical route is:Study I investigates overall performance among military college students in time management tendency and further compares different characteristics of time management tendency among students of the same sex and same grade between military colleges and ordinary colleges.Study II explores adaptability of military college students in military environment from the perspective of time management tendency. As for military college students, academic records and mental health status are two important norms of adaptability through comparison of academic performance and mental health status among individuals of different time management tendency to find out their adaptability in the military environment. A-B personality is a behavior type of time management closely related to time management tendency. As a supplementary to this study, it explains on the other hand the relationship between time management and adaptation to the environment. This study has surveyed 220 military college students and 180 local college students conducting with the use of series of questionnaires, such as "Adolescence Time Management Disposition Scale", "A Type Behavior Pattern Questionnaire" and "SCL-90", together with the latest final examination results as students'academic records by using SPSS 13.0 access for statistical processing. The statistical methods include descriptive statistics, t test, x2 test and so on.The results of this study show that: (l) military college students and ordinary colleges students tend to live in different time management, and the sense of the value of time management and time-efficacy of military college students was significantly higher than that of ordinary colleges and universities, (2) among military college students does not vary with the gender and grade differences, the sense of the value of time management and time-efficacy of military college students was higher than that of ordinary colleges and universities of the same sex and the same grade, (3) the sense of time values of the non-single son or daughter is higher than the single son or daughter in military colleges or universities, (4) the sense of time monitoring and time-efficacy of military college students is proportional to their academic performance, (5) the status of time management tendency differs in academic performance among military college students. A personality is better than B-type and there were no significant differences between two personality types among ordinary college students, (6) there is no measurable correlation between time management and mental health, (7) psychological health status of students of B personality is better than that of A personality. The results of this study indicate that time management tendency is an important personality dimension of military college students to have a significant impact on adaptability. Therefore, to add time management tendency detection during process of enrollment in military academies is of great practical significance. In the mean time, students should be conducted to develop their time management to enhance their adaptability of the military troops during the period of time of staying on campus.
