After independence, India established democratic Parliamentary multi-party system. However, due to some historical reasons, the Congress party holding the power for a long period of time after independence, forming a one-party dominance party system. As the 1970s, India has undergone profound social, economic, political change, the one-party dominance of Congress was challenged, and it ultimately failed in 9th Lok Sabha elections 1989, then lost its one-party dominance status in Indian politics. This article attempts to analyze the process of rise and fall of Congress party, for comprehensively understanding of the development of the Congress Party after independence, in the basis of the relevant facts, in-depth analyzing the process, causes of the lost one-party dominance of the Congress Party and its impact on Indian politics.This article is divided into five parts:For the first part of the paper is introduction, about why I choose this topic, the significance of the topic, related research at home and abroad and methods of writing.The second part describes the rise and fall of the Indian National Congress Party after independence, and its historical process. It will be divided into three stages of this process, Nehru period of political stability, prosperity in the direction implied by the crisis and the decline of the Congress Party.The third part is based on the view of building of the institutionalization of the Congress, its economic policy, the party's corruption to analyze the reasons for the decline of the Congress Party, which is most important part of this paper.The fourth part is in-depth analysis of the reasons for the decline of the Congress Party and the summary of its impact on India's politics.The fifth part is the conclusion.
