Intangible Cultural Heritage forms an important part of Chinese civilization, implicating the Chinese nation-specific cultural values, spiritual connotating and ways of thinking. Wood Engraving Picture is an artistic type of traditional folk art, dependingon the ecological foundation of Chinese folk culture, accompanying with the Chinese nation for a long course of development. A matter of deep anxiety is that many good types of folk culture and art form had the tendency of declining and disappearing during the long process of the development of industrial civilization. As a part of folk art, Wood Engraving Picture is facing the same crisis, and the analysis on the survival and inheritance of the wood engraving picturesis is urgent.In this artile, from the recent situation of the wood engraving pictures, selecting Fengxiang(Shaanxi),Xinjiang(Shanxi) to investigate the origin of the wood engraving pictures. Through the comparison of the specific informations and the historical producing process of wood engraving pictures, analysising the problems of the existence of wood engraving pictures in resent times,and the influence of changes in social system toward wood engraving pictures, and the reason for the declining situation.Hope this research can provide valuable information and academic support to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection, the investigation, heritage and protection toward Chinese traditional wood engraving pictures' research.
