Constructing The New Chinese Women

This paper is based on a magazine New Chinese Women (from year 1949 to 1956),analyzing the what kind of female images the nation trying to construct and how to establish it as well as why such kind of female images should be established from the perspective of the relations of female and the nation. Through the studying, this paper basing on the gender and nation theory of the Israel scholar Davis Yiwa, who borned in America. Davis Yiwa supposed that pedigree,culture and citizenship were the three perspectives of nationalism and gender relation. And detailed analyzed how the nationalism constructed the female from the above mentioned three perspectives. When taking Yiwa's gender and national theory, this paper based on the reality and studies the relations of the female and the nation, recognizing the particularity of the context of the history of Chinese.This paper has three chapter, the first chapter is to make a general introduction of New Chinese Women and explains why take this magazine as the analyzing basis, and taking one of the most important lecture dialogue to expatiate, what was written by a Women's Federation leader. It predicts that the women who take part in productive labor will establish focal point of the New Chinese Women. The second chapter is to study the theoretical discourses of the New Chinese Women magazine. The theoretical discourses is including editorial,lecture dialogue,textbooks,communications,personage introduction etc. By taking Yi's theory this section to analyze the New Chinese Women in new body concept,fertility resource,production resource and politics resource perspective. The third chapter is to study literature discourse of the New Chinese Women magazine. The literature discourse and the theoretical discourses of the New Chinese Women magazine are interactive. This chapter mainly to analyze the interactive process of the two discourses, trying to establish the new Chinese women's images. In order to make a detailed study of the interactive relation, this part stretches its perspective to the literature discourse out of the New Chinese Women magazine, trying to explore women images who different of the new Chinese women. This section focuses on process of the new Chinese women by several kinds of discourses in this period, not the women images itself.
