Author of the movie frequently is regarded as a thinker who employs image narrative to express. Under the field of view of the author, we always figure out the "trace" left by him/her, technically or artistically. The "trace" may lie in cultural, image spiritual facets or the author's subconscious feminism tendency.Guided by "auteur theory", this thesis upholds Jiang Wen's three movies In the Heat of the Sun, Devils on the Doorstep, The Sun Also Rises to analyze the features of his movies, exploring the "trace" in the three movies left by Jiang and summarizing his way to be an "author of the movie".Introduction outlines the research of his movies in detail, with the purpose of digging out the gap. As an actor, Jiang Wen inputs his personality to the role; as a director, he implants personal memory and imagination into the movie, thus more unconstraint. That is the way his style shapes. Chapter one is a guidance of this thesis. Chapter two analyzes Jiang Wen's personal elements in his movies from a perspective of personal utterance. His "author" identification is highlighted by a contrastive analysis between Jiang and other author directors as well as domestic new generation directors. After coming to the conclusion of his "author of the movie" identification, chapter three deploys in detail to review Jiang's movies via stable express factors and to analyze his adherent to movie language and express method. This part witnesses his unique narrative skills, the intertextual space and the audio and image factors used in these three movies. Chapter four reaches the conclusion by analyzing his growth experiences, social background, and exploring what background makes Jiang Wen being an "author" as well as adhering to the personalizing movie style.
