With the development of information technology and the increasing pace of globalization, more and more advanced instruments and equipment have been developed to facilitate people's life, such as labeler, scanner and glue-applicator, etc. English instruction plays its crucial role in offering guidance and directions in practical life, for the guarantee of appropriate installation, operation and maintenance. The excellent instructions help promote the products and build up a good image for the company. Compared with other instructions of everyday life products, English instruction for instruments and equipment has its own stylistic features: concise words in several chapters with illustrations and signs provided. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the stylistic features of English instructions. At the beginning, it gives the introduction about the current study and research on English instructions, points out the research target and the outline of the thesis as well. To further conduct the study, it analyzes and generalizes the stylistic features of English instructions first from three perspectives on level of lexicon, syntax and discourse and then on basis of functional grammar—ideational function, interpersonal function and textual function. Emphasis is put on the translation of English Instructions based on the practical experience. The principle of translation is that the translator should be aware of the register field of the instructions, on basis of which, the terms can be easily determined and the translation of the whole text can be smooth and accurate. Particular attention is also paid to the translation of the technical words, the dealing of the non-finite verbs, discontinuous structure and imperative sentences. It also puts these theories into practical translation, which is generalized in the sample analysis. In the conclusion part, several principles have been put forward—principle of clarity, principle of simplicity, principle of appropriateness, principle of informational hierarchy and completeness, which are very useful for both understanding and writing standard instructions and therefore will provide some reference for the technicians and translators related.
