As one type of scientiifc translation, the translation of the manual of electricequipment demands high level of correctness in content and clarity in language, andthe use of translation skills is indispensable. Quite a number of articles publishedrecently on translation skills used in the ifeld of sciencc and technology are profoundin theory, but not satisfactory in their combination of theory with practice. Theauthor of this thesis, taking her translation of two articles of user instruction done ina translation company as examples, explores the translation skills for manuals ofelectric equipment in the perspective of integrating theory with practice.This thesis presents the structure and language characteristics of the manuals,through which the translation difficulties are analyzed and the correspondingsolution can be achieved; In addition, this thesis tells the way to learn backgroundknowledge of electric field, then twice as much can be accomplished with half theeffort，which greatly improve the efficiency of translation.This thesis analyzes the characteristics of the English manual of electricequipment from the aspccts of vocabulary, sentence structure and discourse. And itputs emphasis on difficulties in translation practice as well as important matterswhich require attention. Using examples from User Guide of Agilent TechnologiesE3633A and E3634A DC power supplies, and MITSUBISHI DIESEL ENGINETECHNICAL INF ORMA HON, this thesis shows how to apply translation skills tothe translation of the English manuals of clectric equipment.
