In the development process of comparative study of music education (CSME), International Association and its organization set up an exchange platform for the comparative study resulting in the promotion and the development of the CSME. Because of the close relationship with CSME, International Society for Music Education (ISME) becomes the typical representative of these International Associations and organizations. From the viewpoint of ISME's mission, policies and its own development history, CSME has always been the focus of ISME. ISME discusses and disseminates CSME-related issues and information through biyearly international conferences, seminars, journals, publications as well as the official website and other mediums. On the one hand, through the enhancement of national exchanges and cooperation in Music Education, the ISME guides them to focus on the field of CSME; On the other hand, in a series of policies, mission and various activities, the ISME promotes the CSME development. With the continuous expansion and growth of ISME, music education in our country is gradually aligning with the international music education, acquiring advanced education concept and the challenges of assimilation of native culture. In this paper, CSME has been firstly defined, and significances of organizations and associations for the comparative study shall be discussed. The history, development, organizations, core values and the existing problems of the ISME shall be studied subsequently. In addition, the relationship between ISME and CSME as well as the meanings of ISME for CSME and its inspirations of ISME for music education in our country will be investigated.
