Opera is a synthetic theater art. It can express complex sentiments and reflect significant social and philosophical issues while at the same time being acceptable to common people. Jiang Jie, an admirable work in contemporary Chinese opera field, gains an important footing in the history of Chinese opera. For the past five decades, Jiang Jie has been highly appreciated by the CPC and the Chinese government and has become a best-known work among Chinese people. My paper mainly explores three aspects: the significant of the opera Jiang Jie, different means of artistic expression in its singing performance and the inspiration we get from the individual performance of Jiang Jie in different generations.
