A Research Of Scope-related Fuzzy Words And Expressions In Modern Official Documents

It is inevitable to use fuzzy language in official documents, and its role cannot be replaced by precise language. However, as the major tool for all the levels of organs, groups and organizations during official activities, the accuracy of official documents should be ensured. Therefore, it becomes a key issue how accurately to use proper fuzzy language in official documents. Correspondingly, this paper is intending to explore the usage of the words which denote scope.This paper consists of three chapters.Chapter I is to summarize all the relative theories of Fuzzy Linguistics, and to discuss the fuzzy language of official documents and the application of fuzzy words in official documents. Its first segment is the summary of Fuzzy Linguistics, including its reason for existence, basic components, and the research prospects and problems in China. The second is the relative content, comprising the definition, characteristics, and the research object of fuzzy language. The third mainly discusses the fuzzy words in official documents, including the classification, pragmatic functions and the reason for existence.ChapterⅡis the major part of this essay.《The Necessary Civil Law Manual for Civil Servants》being taken as corpus, this paper has mainly analyzed the words which denote scope, meanwhile, deeply and specially studied the following four-group words:"other","immense,extensive","respectively","above,below, within,beyond"to fully prove that it is necessary and important to use fuzzy language, especially for these words of scope term, in official documents. ChapterⅢis the conclusion of this paper, and consists of two segments. One explains the reason why fuzzy language is chosen as the object of study and research, especially for the four group words:"other","immense,extensive","respectively","above,below, within,beyond"; the other mainly discusses how accurately to adopt proper fuzzy language in official documents.
