Chinese aesthetics is an opening process that from the beginning of 20 century to present and go on. Its basic character is the collision and combination between Chinese and Western mind and the modern transformation of theoretic discourse. YI XIANG(image) and YI JING (conception, realm) as the important Chinese classical aesthetics concepts, both reflect the way of thinking of Chinese classical aesthetics emphasized sensitive intuition, harmony between man and nature, organic whole view to make DAO (principle, say, way) and QI(air, vital energy, energy of life) as the essence of the world, and show the great syncretic ability of Chinese culture. since entered the Chinese modern aesthetics, under the influence of its general tendency and basic character, the concepts have been changed in different period: from the earlier stage, in which they were explained by western aesthetic mind and way of discourse, divided and added new content, and appeared the tendency of differentiation and extension , to the later stage , in which were given original aesthetic character again and as the ontological concepts of aesthetics. In the contemporary global context, through the change of the Chinese classical aesthetic conception of YI XIANG and YI JING in Chinese modern aesthetics, we can view the epitome of modernization and position of Chinese classical aesthetics and traditional culture, and give the basic theoretical buttress to establish and propagate Chinese culture.
