Additional prefixes in the Tangut language are used to express a certain grammatical meaning, this constitutes one of the most important grammatical features of the Tibeto-Burman language family, and especially of the Qiangic languages, where the Tangut belongs.Research on the predicate prefixes of the Tangut language, domestic and foreign scholars has yielded some important results. My study concentrated on the corpus of predicative prefixes in three Tangut translations of the Chinese texts, namely:"Jing Lu Yi Xiang","Xin Ji Ci Xiao Zhuan"and "Shi Er Guo".In the study I analyzed the range of grammatical meanings expressed by each prefix.I have three parts in my study:The first part mainly introduces the three Tangut texts which I am using; In the second part, the use of each prefix in the three classics is screened and classified. Here I observe some grammatical phenomena, neglected by the previous scholarship:the prefix(?)djij2can express subjunctive mood; The third part points out three basic observations concerning the predicative prefixes:1.The phenomenon of the same predicate attached to a different prefix;2.The prohibitive and impertative moods in the Tangut language;3.The phenomenon of "double prefixation" in the Tangut language. These are my basic contributions to the field. |
